Queensland Boat Inspections, also trading as The Boat Specialist, is an independently owned and operated business by Leighton Todd. Leighton has a long history in Queensland's marine industry, starting in 1995. Over his career, he has worked in various roles, including mechanical servicing and repairs, spare parts management, and over twenty years of boat sales and brokerage. He has also managed multiple boat yards and workshops across South East Queensland.

In 2007, Leighton recognized a gap in boat buyer protection and embarked on a mission to enhance it. He began offering independent used boat inspections and boat valuations, introducing a novel concept that included comprehensive assessments of the boat, motor, and trailer. His approach was unique because it combined mechanical proficiency with expertise in boat building, trailer compliance, and boat sales and brokerage. This innovation brought a new level of assurance to boat buyers, addressing a previously underserved aspect of their purchasing journey.

Leighton’s career achievements also include several manufacturer customer satisfaction and Dealership of the Year awards for his work in managing these dealerships. His commitment to excellence is evident in his meticulous approach to each inspection or valuation, undertaken with the precision and scrutiny comparable to his personal investment in the vessel. When conducting valuations, Leighton leverages his extensive industry experience, along with current market research and sales history, to provide accurate valuations for most makes and models of trailer boats up to eight meters in length.

In addition to Leighton's wealth of knowledge and expertise, all inspections are enhanced by state-of-the-art diagnostic and scanning equipment, featuring Tramex moisture readers and FLIR thermal imaging cameras. Furthermore, all outboard inspections (fuel injected) encompass electronic diagnostics scans and testing, provided at no additional cost.
